Dark and Tender: Aaron Johnson and Prentis Hemphill in Conversation
Join us for a Film Screening, Embodiment Practice, Q&A and Community Sing with Aaron Johnson, director of Dark and Tender and founder of The CUT Project, and Prentis Hemphill, Co-Founder of the Embodiment Institute and author of What It Takes To Heal.

Dark and Tender Workshop with Aaron Johnson
Join us for an experiential workshop easing into the practices introduced by The Chronically UnderTouched (CUT) Project in the short film Dark and Tender, to dismantle the Black Brute archetype and barriers for platonic closeness. We'll do some singing, co-writing, co-listening as on-ramps to what's possible in day-long or weekend Dark and Tender workshops.
This event is open to the public.
LANGSTON strives to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for Black people and all races and ethnic backgrounds dedicated to cultivating an inclusive space. All genders, sexual orientations, and identities are respected. For this workshop, everyone is welcome, and Black masculine folks are centered.
The Dark and Tender workshop is presented in partnership with the Seattle Black Film Festival and The Seattle Public Library with support from the Seattle Public Library Foundation and LANGSTON.

Dark and Tender at Seattle Black Film Festival
"When a man starts out to build a world, He starts first with himself."
- Freedom’s Plow by Langston Hughes
The ‘Brothers, Y’all Alright?” block of films at Seattle Black Film Festival invites men to tune into their inner sensitivity and embrace vulnerability. Through powerful narratives, these stories explore the importance of emotional expression and self-discovery, encouraging viewers to challenge traditional notions of masculinity and celebrate their authentic selves. This block is sure to make you dive deeper into your emotions, masculinity and self-expression.

Touch Activist Program 2025 Cohort
The Touch Activist Program is creating a critical mass of practitioners and every day humans to offer conscious, caring, carnage-informed holding for Black bodies and People of the Global Majority.
The Touch Activist Program will benefit all People of the Global Majority (PGM), but will be focusing specifically on the Chronically UnderTouched Black body and will do a deep evaluation of the Black Brute archetype and the shaping of America’s extractive sexual and violent touch story today. Touch and holding include physical touch as well as energetic presence, song, movement, nature connection, and deep listening. The Touch Activist Program is for both formal practitioners in related areas of expertise, as well as anyone who wants to interrupt the Chronically UnderTouched trauma story and be a part of the collective healing of closeness.
